Architecture Residential

Manor Road, Former Homebase

Redefining the urban village

Richmond upon Thames / London

Overview

This development seeks to create a new residential quarter that delivers 453 homes, retail space and a new public square within a highly sustainable location just a 10-minute walk from Kew Gardens.

The proposed design supports the future vision for Richmond, contributing towards improving the town’s public realm and providing much-needed housing, including 40% affordable new homes and commercial spaces, all within a high quality and sustainable landscaped setting.

The residential buildings are arranged around a new neighbourhood square designed to be flexible and support myriad uses, including farmer’s markets, art installations and cinema screenings.

The proposed development reinstates the street frontage along Manor Road with the provision of new trees and active retail frontages improving and revitalising the approach to North Sheen station.

The material palette of various brick-tones and reconstituted stone details, including arches and paired entrances, is contemporary whilst referencing the surrounding vernacular architecture.
