Two key promotions to celebrate the end of 2020
We’re proud to announce two big promotions: Adam Fothergill and Ed Sharland to Associate Director.
Both Adam and Ed have been leading large teams on some of Assael’s key projects, as well as being integral to the practice’s activities.
Adam joined Assael as an experienced architect back in 2016 and has since played a pivotal role in some of Assael’s major projects, including the detail design for Charter Square in Staines-upon-Thames and the design and successful planning application for Lewisham Retail Park for Legal & General. Adam’s design skills were exemplified in the design of Leaside Lock, comprising 500 homes for Danescroft Land and The Guinness Partnership in Bromley-by-Bow, which successfully received planning consent in 2018 and has since been shortlisted for two prestigious awards; the Housing Design Awards and NLA Awards.
More recently, Adam has been leading on two complex projects: Nine Elms Overstation Development for Connected Living London – the JV between TfL and Grainger – which will see 479 new Build to Rent homes built above the new Nine Elms station; and at Vulcan Wharf, a co-location development of 457 homes and light industrial space for London Square and Peabody.
Adam is also an active participant in Assael’s design review process, advising on all projects across the office.
Ed has similarly played an instrumental role in some of Assael’s most notable projects since joining the practice as a part II graduate over eight years ago.
He started his Assael career working on the implementation of our award-winning Rainsborough Square in Fulham that comprises 40 townhouses laid out in an interpretation of the traditional London square. After qualifying as an architect in 2014, Ed furthered his experience on the planning and developed design of many of our projects, including our award-winning Ham Mill in Stroud that includes 100 new homes centred around the refurbished and converted Grade II listed building, a Build to Rent project in the historic centre of York as part of the Hungate masterplan, a 300-home scheme in Greenwich, and the masterplanning of 2,000 homes at Margarine Works in Ealing, amongst others.
In more recent years, Ed has been heading up our advancement into co-living, leading on two projects in Wandsworth for market leaders The Collective: Garratt Mills in Earlsfield, which is now on site, and Chatfield Road in Battersea. These projects are helping establish Assael as a leader in the design of co-living projects. Like Adam, he is also developing our work in co-location, running a large project of residential homes co-located above ground floor light industrial space in Waltham Forest.
Alongside his projects, Ed is one of our two staff elected Trustees who sit on the Assael Employee Ownership Trust Board (EOT). Here he plays a vital role in maintaining and improving staff engagement and communication across the practice, as well as ensuring we’re delivering on our Business Plan.
