Ham Mill picks up acclaimed Housing Design Award
We’re thrilled to receive a Housing Design Award for our project that reimagines the industrial site of the Grade II listed Ham Mill in Stroud.
The judges praised our 100-home project, Ham Mill, for kickstarting the regeneration of the Stroud Valleys.
“The Cotswolds are known for beautiful property and high land values. But there is a narrow 13-mile long belt of industrial heritage along the River Frome, known as ‘the Stroud Valleys, where you find dozens of abandoned mills and warehouses, many fine buildings, waiting for people with vision to redevelop because land values don’t make it easy. As always, that first scheme is going to have to be exceptional to change perceptions about value. This is that scheme.”
These awards, “where government and industry champion skill and innovation”, are the longest running awards programme in the country, launched in 1948 as a government initiative to promote well-designed and healthy homes in post-war Britain.
The judging panel was made up of leading industry and public sector figures from, amongst others, the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), Homes England, the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Royal Institute of British architects (RIBA), the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
