Assael and Development Securities get the green light for conversion of Rembrandt House

Assael’s plans for the conversion of the locally listed Rembrandt House have been given the go ahead by Watford Council.

The proposed scheme converts Rembrandt House, a locally listed building in Watford, into new residential accommodation comprising 43 apartments. The building sits along the full length of a wider masterplan, currently under construction.

Assael’s design will preserve the heritage of the existing building and retain the external façade. The industrial architecture of the building will enable the renovation works to provide the interior spaces with period detailing such as high ceilings and exposed structure that enhance the living area.

New mezzanine levels will be incorporated into the roof space to provide bedrooms for the duplex apartments at second floor, creating open plan, light and spacious living with exposed steel trusses.

The private and affordable accommodation will provide a mix of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments. In addition, the scheme will provide three commercial units located at lower ground floor.

Work is expected to start on site in November 2015.
