Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site announced
Assael are appointed by UK Regeneration on their second site, a new 8-acre urban village, which will turn the rental market on its head. The Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site will deliver 300 new homes around an integrated public realm, designed specifically for long-term investment and management.
Jackie Sadek, Chief Executive of UK Regeneration, announced the news at the Derby Embassy at MIPIM in front of 250 delegates. Derby Hospitals NHS Trust has agreed to sell the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site to build privately rented homes and make way for a new generation of homemakers in Derby. It is hoped that this scheme, along with that at Sandfield in Nottingham, will forge the way with ‘build-to-let’ schemes across the country and start a radical new approach within the housing market.
The emerging scheme proposes to strip away 70 years of unsympathetic extensions to reveal the architectural heritage of the ‘pepper pot’ and water towers. The free-standing Victorian water tower will form a centrepiece to the new urban square.
A planning application is due to be submitted in the summer with the private rented village delivering homes in 2015.
