Wallis House shortlisted for architecture award
Wallis House, on the Great West Road in Brentford, West London, has been shortlisted in the Conservation & Retrofit category of the New London Awards 2012, which recognise outstanding schemes in the capital. The scheme was designed by architectural practice Assael for Barratt London.
Wallis House is a Grade II listed art deco factory building of the 1930s featuring a striking tower, which has been converted beautifully and sensitively for commercial and residential use, including 110 apartments.
The former Glaxo Smith Kline headquarters is the centrepiece of the Great West Quarter, a 4.9ha site for which Assael has designed a regeneration scheme for Barratt London. The £180 million scheme is set to transform a dilapidated office and industrial site into a much-needed vibrant new living quarter.
The New London Awards were created by New London Architecture (NLA), the independent forum for debate about the future of the capital. The awards aim to offer architecture and design fans the opportunity to voice their opinions about the best new developments in the capital, and to bring achievements in the built environment sector to a wider audience.
Voting runs from Monday 18th of June until Sunday 8th July and the winners will be announced at the NLA’s annual lunch at the Guildhall on Tuesday 10th July.
