Eaton Manor

Modernising a 1960’s apartment building

Hove / UK

Overview

Eaton Manor is made up of 140 privately rented apartments across four buildings in Hove, near Brighton.

With our role focused on the upgrade of the common areas, the design was to satisfy the diverse group of residents who ranged in age from their early 20s to late 80s.

Our design enhances the first impression of the building from street level. Without compromising the apartments’ internal space, the ground floor is opened up via a remodelled modernised entrance with floor-to-ceiling glazing that brings in an abundance of light, carried through to the apartments.

The material palette is inspired by the local architecture and existing buildings, including a modern interpretation of the black and white floor tiles seen in the ornate porches of the surrounding Victorian houses. A1960’s-inspired colour palette gives a different identity to each of the four buildings and also forms the backdrop to our site-wide wayfinding strategy.
