Conversion of Grade II listed Ham Mill picks up The Sunday Times’ Housing Project award
Yesterday, The Sunday Times published the winners of this year’s British Homes Awards, and we’re delighted that Ham Mill has won the Housing Project award.
The project, which secured planning consent earlier this year, focuses around the refurbishment and conversion of the Grade II listed Ham Mill, one of the ‘landmark mills’ in the Stroud Industrial Heritage Conservation Area. The scheme brings life and enterprise back to the site after 17 years of vacancy, preserving and securing the listed mill and other key heritage assets in a comprehensive mixed-use development that provides 100 new homes for the area whilst introducing public access through the site to the River Frome for the first time.
| This award makes it Assael’s third year in a row of winning the Housing Project category, awarded to an exemplary design for a scheme of houses and/or apartments which has planning consent and in early stages of development.
Last year, it went to another of our heritage-led project, the conversion of the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea Square, and in 2015 Creekside Wharf won the award for being the first scheme in the UK to be designed, built and professionally managed for families who rent. |
