Planning consent granted to redevelop disused site in Putney
Developer A2Dominion has been granted planning consent by the London Borough of Wandsworth to develop Carlton House, a vacant 1960s office building comprising seven-storeys in Putney.
The residential-led, mixed-use scheme has been designed by Assael Architecture, bringing 73 new apartments and four commercial units to Putney Town Centre as well as introducing a ‘gateway’ into Carlton Drive and the residential areas beyond.
A large amenity space at fourth floor roof level, including a children’s play area, and a double-height concierge along Carlton Drive will give the development a premium quality. Ground floor commercial units and an enhanced public realm will provide an attractive frontage whilst increasing the footfall between East Putney Tube station and the town centre.
The new building is sympathetic to the urban environment with a palette of materials chosen to respect the existing character of Upper Richmond Road.
Danny Lynch, A2Dominion’s Development Director (London), said:
“The redevelopment of this important site will deliver dozens of much-needed new homes within a new landmark building in the heart of Putney. This scheme supports the Group’s strategy to continue to diversify its portfolio, with the new homes for sale, private rent and shared ownership to be available through our FABRICA by A2Dominion brand.”
John Assael, Chairman of Assael Architecture, said:
“This scheme has evolved over two years following detailed consultation with many stakeholders. It is a bold design to provide a gateway at the function of Carlton Drive and the South Circular Road. We have adopted high quality materials and a comprehensive strategy to sustainability and this incorporates a south elevation with solar panels integrated into the design.”
