Blackhorse Mills becomes first Build to Rent scheme to achieve Home Quality Mark status from BRE Global

We’re delighted that Assael’s Blackhorse Mills project in Walthamstow has become the first Build to Rent development to achieve Home Quality Mark status from BRE Global.

Developed by Legal & General, Blackhorse Mills is the largest residential development to achieve this accolade in the UK to date, providing nearly 500 homes to the growing Build to Rent market.

The Home Quality Mark is a quality rating scheme attributed to all new-build homes, introduced to help empower consumers by giving them confidence in the quality of each home. Blackhorse Mills is the first purpose designed and purpose built rental scheme to be awarded this accreditation, which emphasises the growing confidence in Built to Rent as a genuine alternative in the rental market.

Alongside the homes, the development will also provide a range of amenities for all residents, including flexible working space, communal roof terraces and even a heated outdoor swimming pool with views overlooking the surrounding wetlands, alongside 20,000 sq ft of commercial space for creative and start-up businesses in the area.

Blackhorse Mills, due for completion in Spring 2020, is one of many Build to Rent schemes designed by Assael, including Union Wharf in Greenwich for Essential Living, and Pontoon Dock with Linkcity and Grainger near Silvertown.

Russell Pedley, co-founder and director of Assael Architecture, said: “We are incredibly proud to see Blackhorse Mills become the first ever Built to Rent scheme to achieve Home Quality Mark status. Not only is it a testimony to the quality of the scheme, but it also emphasises the growing strength of the UK Build to Rent sector, which is challenging the current status quo in the rental market and providing top quality housing for people throughout the UK.”
